Splinters // A Very Special Screening

On Wednesday 28th May, we are stoked to be hosting a very special screening of ‘Splinters’. Directed by Adam Pesce, this incredible multi-award winning documentary  explores the emerging indigenous surf scene in Papua New Guinea and the issues associated with a very male dominated society coming to grips with a 21st Century world.

Accompanied by a Q+A with one of the stars of the film Andy Able, President of the Surfing Association of Papua New Guinea plus Chris Hines M.B.E – campaigner for positive change and former director of Surfers Against Sewage  this is an event not to be missed. If that weren’t enough, PNG Tourism are offering all ticket holders the chance to win an incredible 10 day surf trip for two to Papua New Guinea with every ticket sold.

“We hosted the UK Premier of Splinters in 2011 and the film made a huge impact – the whole audience was on the edge of their seats,” says LS/FF Director Chris Nelson. “It uses surfing as a vehicle to tell a much bigger story – one that stays with you long after the screening is over.”

The screening takes place Wednesday 28th May, 7.30pm at Riverside Studios, London. Tickets are just £7.50 available via the Riverside box office HERE.

If you can’t make the London event, Splinters will also be screening in Cornwall and Bristol – details below.

All proceeds from the tickets will go towards new surfboards that the Surfing Association of PNG (SAPNG) will share with local surf clubs.

ABOUT SPLINTERS

‘Splinters’ from Director Adam Pesce is a compelling, almost Shakespearean tale documenting the impact that waveriding has had upon the people and the culture of Papua New Guinea. In the 80’s a pilot left behind a surfboard in a remote ocean side village. This story unfolds 20 years later in the months leading up to the first National Surf Championships and explores the hopes and dreams of the surfers, the effect that surfing has had on human relationships, societal changes, inter-club tensions and the sometimes brutal rivalries that surface between friends and families within this tight knit, male-dominated, community.
